Edward V (Tutor)
[00:00:03] Hello and welcome to Tutor.com ! How are you today?

Hannah (Customer)
[00:00:04] Need help taking the limit
[00:00:18] I am pretty good. How are you?

Edward V (Tutor)
[00:00:30] I'm doing fine, thanks. =)
[00:00:38] Hang on while I take a look at the problem.
[00:00:46] Oh first off, what have you been going over in class?

Hannah (Customer)
[00:02:02] currently in class we are getting ready for a test, this is off the review. it is from the the limits and continuity section though

Edward V (Tutor)
[00:02:24] Oh, okay.
[00:02:46] Have you been going over any special methods for solving limits, or just the traditional way?

Hannah (Customer)
[00:03:11] just the traditional way, i believe, i don't know of any special methods

Edward V (Tutor)
[00:03:33] Okay. Just checking. =)
[00:03:39] All right, so any ideas how to start?

Hannah (Customer)
[00:04:25] no idea

Edward V (Tutor)
[00:05:01] Well, did you see what happens when you just plug them in right away?

Hannah (Customer)
[00:05:12] yeah
[00:05:17] that does not work

Edward V (Tutor)
[00:05:35] Right, because you get 0/0.
[00:05:38] Good.
[00:05:57] So now all we can do is try to manipulate the expression.

Hannah (Customer)
[00:06:05] yep

Edward V (Tutor)
[00:06:15] And one way we can do that is by trying to factor.
[00:06:20] Have you tried that yet?

Hannah (Customer)
[00:06:31] nope

Edward V (Tutor)
[00:06:45] Okay, well let's take a look at the top first.
[00:07:19] Any ideas what this factors into?

Hannah (Customer)
[00:07:28] yeah one sec

Edward V (Tutor)
[00:07:36] Ok.
[00:08:29] Right. Good! =)
[00:10:02] Okay, so the denominator's right, but we can actually factor it into the product of two expressions like in the numerator.

Hannah (Customer)
[00:10:24] ok let me see if i can figure it out
[00:10:26] one sec

Edward V (Tutor)
[00:10:35] Ok.
[00:12:35] Almost.
[00:12:37] Hang on.
[00:12:55] So when we multiply what you got, do we get the original one?
[00:13:12] Right, just switch the signs.
[00:13:54] Exactly. Good job! =)

Hannah (Customer)
[00:14:33] thanks for the help

Edward V (Tutor)
[00:14:39] Any questions about the problem?
[00:14:42] You're welcome!

Hannah (Customer)
[00:14:54] nope i got it

Edward V (Tutor)
[00:15:05] Great, well if that's it, I have to go help other students waiting in the queue.

[00:15:25] and you too
