General FAQ

Q: How does Tutor.com work?

Our tutors are available 24/7 for help with math, English, science and social studies. There's no need to make an appointment, so you can get a tutor anytime you need one. Just tell us what you're working on, and we'll match you with a tutor who can help in minutes.

Every tutoring session takes place in our online classroom, which runs in your web browser window. The online classroom includes a chat window and a two-way interactive whiteboard where you can draw with your mouse. You can also send files to your tutor or browse the internet together.

For more information about our online classroom, check out How It Works.

Q: How do I get a tutor?

It's easy—just visit our website and click "Get a Tutor." If you already have an account, our online classroom will open in a new web browser window, where you'll select the subject you need help with and let us know what you're working on.

If you don't have an account, you can create one today by choosing one of our monthly tutoring plans. Then you can start a session anytime by clicking "Get a Tutor."

Q: Will my tutors give me the answers?

No. Our tutors will make sure you can not only solve the problem you're working on, but also answer similar questions in the future—on your own. They'll help you, guide you, and show you how to tackle the problem, but our tutors will never just give you the answer.

24 hours a day, seven days a week, 361 days a year—we're closed on New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Q: Can I work with the same tutor again?

Yes. You can connect with your favorite tutors whenever they're available. If one of your favorites is working with another student, you can get in line or let us find another great tutor in your requested subject.

To add a tutor to your favorites list, just click yes under "Add this tutor to your Favorite Tutor list" after completing your session. You can see all your favorites by clicking "Manage your favorites list" on your account page.

Q: Can I review my previous sessions?

Yes. Just click "View your previous sessions" on your account page to review transcripts of your previous sessions or replay them in real time.

Q: Do I have to use a whole hour every time I work with a tutor?

No. Our average session is about 25 minutes long, but you can work with a tutor for as long as you want—whether it's five minutes or an hour.

Q: What if my tutor can't help me?

Our tutors are all screened professionals, but they are human, and nobody knows everything. If you get a tutor who isn't an expert in your specific question, he or she will be happy to transfer you to another tutor right away (and you won't lose any minutes while you wait, of course). And if you ever have a session you're not completely happy with, just request a credit, and we'll investigate it.
