Tutor.com Sponsors the Tabula Digita Student Tournament at NECC

Twelve algebra students compete in the first ever National Multiplayer Educational Game Tournament

New York, NY (June 26, 2007) – Tutor.com, the leading provider of on demand homework help and tutoring for libraries and families is an official sponsor of the Tabula Digita first ever national multiplayer education game (MEG) tournament at the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC). Twelve algebra students representing schools and organizations from across the country will showcase their math skills while competing against one another in a sophisticated and thrilling 3-D video gaming environment today at the Georgia World Congress Center.

George Cigale founder and CEO of Tutor.com will personally present each competitor with 600 minutes of free one-to-one on demand tutoring. Whenever students get stuck, whether it's right after the last school bell rang or 10 p.m. that evening, they connect to a professional tutor in under 3 minutes, on average. A student works one-to-one with a tutor online where they use real-time chat, an interactive whiteboard and Web browsing tools. Students get help in not just algebra but a full range of subjects including science, social studies and English, seven days a week.

"Partnering with Tabula Digita is a natural fit for us," explained Cigale. "Both companies are meeting the educational needs of a tech savvy generation that expects to get everything online and on demand. Yet, students still have a "wow" moment and feel empowered when they first connect and realize there is a real, live tutor ready to help them. Students get help the minute they need it and that translates into increased confidence and better grades."

"Like Tutor.com, the students who use our collaborative, competitive and yet educational videogames are awed that they are having fun while learning challenging concepts," said Ntiedo Etuk, chief executive office of Tabula Digita. "Today's tournament will showcase just how powerful an experience we provide. We're looking forward to more projects with Tutor.com that will combine our solutions and offer truly unique student experiences."

Teachers know that getting students comfortable with math is challenging. This fact is compounded by the anxiety both children and parents have around math. In a recent survey conducted by Russell Research, over half of the parents contacted, (54%) report that they too experience some stress over their child's math homework.

Student and parent math anxiety contributes to the high demand for out-of-school help when teachers aren't available. During the 2006-2007 school year, subjects such as Algebra I, Algebra II, Chemistry, Trigonometry, Physics and Calculus accounted for over 60% of the more than 720,000 tutoring sessions that were completed through Tutor.com. On any given school night, approximately 2,000 math and science tutoring sessions take place between the hours of 2 p.m. - 1 a.m. Eastern time. Over 90% of the students completing post-tutoring surveys reported they would recommend the service to a friend.
