Career Experience

My first educational job was teaching for a company that ran afterschool chess clubs. Since 2008, I've been running a K-12 homework help program at a library popular with Somali-American youth. I also run games for kids there over the summer. I've been with Tutor.com since 2009.

I Love Tutoring Because

...one can make so much more academic progress when one works with people one-on-one. I also like using and sharing the knowledge I've accrued. Tutoring is a bit of a puzzle--you have to figure out what knowledge or understanding is missing from the student's mind and figure out a (hopefully elegant) way to provide it. Moreover, tutoring can help me fill in the gaps in my own knowledge. :-)

The tutor was amazing. He was the only one who asked questions to help me understand. I spoke with 3 others who looked at it and said, nope you need someone else. Although this is not his area of expertise, he took the time to slow down, ask questions, and help me understand. We need more tutors like him.
