Your Vision Is our Call to Action
Through advocacy, sponsorships and corporate memberships we work with you to further the vision of public library service
This is a true story.
George Cigale's family arrived in Queens, NY as Russian immigrants in the mid 1970's, not speaking more than a few words of English. George, future founder and CEO of Tutor.com, was 6 years old and found himself in first grade, learning a new language and a new culture. Luckily, the central library of the Queens Borough Public Library was only a few blocks away. The collection of Russian books was a draw for George's parents, and once there, a world of opportunity opened up for George. Over the coming years, with both parents working, George would spend many after-school hours at the library, getting school work done and taking full advantage of its resources. From these early experiences grew a lifelong appreciation of—and love for—libraries and their role as the "great equalizer." And who knows—maybe somewhere in the corner of George's mind, while doing his homework at the library, a seed was planted—wouldn't it be great if I could use a library computer to connect with a tutor for help with my math homework...
With this as part of our corporate history, is it any wonder we have a passion for libraries?
Since 2000, we've been working with libraries large and small to help further your mission to ensure equal opportunity for access to information for all in your community. Our commitment extends to support for library programs nationally and advocating actively with you for library funding on the state and federal levels.
Discovering the natural fit between the library's mission and our one-to-one online tutoring when and where help is needed has created a bond between Tutor.com and libraries. We are proud to support libraries and librarians through our active participation in the following library organizations:
