Coming Up Next: Classroom Intro & Interview

Congratulations on passing your subject exam(s)! You are now ready for your Classroom Intro & Interview (CII). The CII is your time to shine! You will have the opportunity to connect with one of our Quality Specialists to dive into our tutoring philosophy and show us how you’d be a great fit for On-Demand Tutoring at Tutor.com.

Note: The information below is for those applying to be an On-Demand Tutor. If you are applying for our HDT program, the preparation, scheduling, and interview process is different. Please check your email for more information.

Preparation

To prepare for your CII, please review this Applicant Resource. You must prepare for the CII as you would for any other interview. If you have not prepared, you will be asked to come back once you have done so.

Please note: You will be asked to utilize both the Voice and Video features during your CII. All CIIs are conducted in English.

Need Help? Please reach out to tutorsupport@tutor.com at any time. Our support team aims to respond to inquiries within 1-3 business days.

All Set?

When you’re ready for your CII, visit your applicant dashboard to connect. CIIs are available on-demand between the hours of 8am and 11pm Eastern. We ask that you please treat this appointment as you would any professional interview. We therefore recommend that you only choose to connect during a time that you can devote your full attention to the CII.

The Tutor.com Classroom

While the CII will be taking place through a different interface, you may want to download the Tutor.com Classroom to check that it is compatible with your computer. This is the Classroom that our tutors use to conduct sessions, so it is important that you would be able to utilize it.

Click here to download the installer package.

(when prompted, choose "Run" or "Open" to install the program right away.)

About Tutor.com Sessions

We pride ourselves in delivering millions of high-quality tutoring sessions. There are three ways that students connect with our tutors in our online Classroom:

  • Live, on-demand sessions with systematically routed students.
  • Scheduled appointment tutoring with specific students who request to work with you.
  • Asynchronous document review with feedback submitted back to the end-user within the designated timeframe.

How It Works

The majority of our sessions are on-demand and average around 20 minutes, depending on the complexity of the question/assignment. A student will log in to Tutor.com, select their grade-level and Subject, and post a homework question or assignment that they need help with. If you tutor the Subject they need help with, you will receive their session request in a pop-up window, review their question, and click “accept” to hop into the classroom together.

Then you will work with the student to understand the concepts and complete the assignment together (as opposed to answer-giving which doesn’t help anyone!). After you wrap up with the student, you may receive another session request from another student in any Subject that you tutor as long as you remain logged in and set to “available.”

More specific information on sessions, session-length, client types, and resources will be provided when you are a New Tutor.

Tutor Expectations & Student Usage

It is our expectation that tutors will make themselves available a minimum average of 5 hours per week whether through self-scheduling or “floating” unscheduled to pick up session overages. We realize this may be more or less depending on time of year, but in general we’d like tutors to conduct sessions at least 5 hours each week. We will provide more information after you've completed the Classroom Introduction & Interview.
