East Baton Rouge School District to offer Tutor.com to Algebra and Geometry Students

Funded through ARRA, Program will connect Middle and High School Math Students to Expert Tutors Online

NEW YORK – September 8, 2010 – Tutor.com, the largest online tutoring and Live Homework Help® service, and East Baton Rouge School District (EBR) announced today that EBR will offer Tutor.com’s one-to-one, online tutoring and homework help services to middle and high school students taking Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry students for the 2010-2011 school year. This new program will give more than 6,000 students access to on demand help from a live algebra tutor or geometry tutor from 6:00 a.m. – Midnight, seven days a week. The program is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment ACT (ARRA).

Tutor.com’s online tutoring and homework help program seamlessly increases instruction time and individual time on task for every student with access to the program. Any time a student gets stuck on a homework assignment, is studying for an exam or simply didn’t understand the day’s lesson, he or she can get online and connect to a tutor for personalized assistance – without an appointment. The online tutor works one to one with the student in real-time, using an interactive whiteboard that includes drag and drop tools to make math sessions efficient and effective. Monthly reports are shared with EBR to help identify where students are struggling and to document the skills they are mastering.

Students who master Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry are ready to face more challenging math and science coursework and are more likely to be on a path towards college. EBR expects the academic support Tutor.com provides throughout the school year will result in students coming to class prepared with completed assignments and more confident and engaged in their own learning process. 86% of students of use Tutor.com’s Live Homework Help service report that they are more likely to take Advanced Placement classes.

"Tutor.com provides an opportunity for our students to receive additional help in their studies," said East Baton Rouge Parish School System Superintendent John Dilworth. "This tutoring service is designed to reinforce instruction taught in Math classes. It also gives students a chance to seek assistance in a private, on-line setting, when they might otherwise be hesitant to ask for help in their daily classes. In addition, some of our parents/guardians can access the tutorial in order to refresh their math skills so they can also be of support."

"After a decade of providing one-to-one tutoring solutions, we know firsthand how many students are in a daily struggle to keep up in their math and science coursework," explained George Cigale, founder and CEO of Tutor.com. "We are very excited to work with EBR and to provide students the immediate help that can turn a frustrated and confused student to an excited and engaged one."
