Military Child Education Coalition and Tutor.com Partner to Help Military Children Achieve College and Work Place Readiness

Tutor.com Showcases Online Tutoring Program for U.S. Military Families at MCEC’s 12th Annual Conference

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md – July 21, 2010 – Tutor.com, the largest online tutoring service and the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) announced today from the MCEC’s 12th Annual Conference a partnership to help military children achieve college and work place readiness.

Throughout the 2010 school year, Tutor.com and the MCEC will work together to reach more students with information regarding Tutor.com for U.S. Military Families and how to access online tutors 24/7 from a base library computer or home computer. The partnership will kick-off on July 21 at the MCEC Innovations in Learning Expo where Tutor.com will demonstrate how military children can access homework help and online tutoring. Then, as students return to school this fall, the MCEC will share program information through their MCEC Parent to Parent Program and their MCEC Student to Student (S2S) Program.

The Department of Defense is currently funding an online tutoring program for military children provided by Tutor.com. Eligible service members and their families connect to expert tutors online for help with homework, test preparation and academic skills in all core subjects at no charge. Since the program launched in late 2009, tutors have completed more than 60,000 one-to-one tutoring and career sessions.

“We are so pleased that the Department of Defense is offering this important service for military children who face the challenges of mobitlity, transitions, and parental deployments,” explained Ed Veiga, MCEC Vice President. “Partnering with Tutor.com to reach students in need throughout the school year will ensure that military families know that access to professional tutoring and homework help is available whenever they need it.”

“Military families have responded so positively to online tutoring, but we know that many students are still unaware that this important benefit exists,” said George Cigale founder and CEO of Tutor.com. “Working together with the MCEC we hope to reach many more children with the message that help is available. The results are more confident students who go to school with completed assignments, ready to learn and achieve.”
