Virtual Reference Librarian Join Tutor.com
New staff fuel growth and product innovation

NEW YORK– June 14, 2005 –Paul Gomes, a former Microsoft consultant, and Angela Pfeil, formerly a branch manager at Henderson District Public Libraries (NV) and a contract librarian for the Tutor.com Librarians by Request service, have joined the staff of Tutor.com, the leading provider of one-to-one learning and information services.

Paul Gomes, vice president of technology, oversees product development and information technology. He is responsible for leading the development of Tutor.com’s next generation virtual reference service, scheduled for general release in the fall of 2005. Before joining Tutor.com, Gomes spent five years at Microsoft where he assisted developers, managers and executives to evaluate and implement Microsoft technologies. Prior to Microsoft, he worked in software development management at AIC Group of Funds, Reuters America and Prodigy Online Services. Gomes also founded and operated a boutique consulting firm where clients included the Royal Bank of Canada and Dean Witter. His technical experience includes work with Microsoft Customer Applications, where he helped hundreds of customers release products, and development of moderated news groups and an email client for Prodigy.

Angela Pfeil, manager, client services received her MLS from State University of New York at Buffalo. Prior to joining Tutor.com she was branch manager for Pittman Cybrary, a satellite branch of the Henderson District Public Libraries, and Community Outreach Librarian at Las Vegas Clark County Library District in Nevada. For more than two years, Pfeil served as an on-call virtual librarian with Tutor.com’s Librarians by Request (LBR) service. As part of the LBR team, she was responsible for monitoring multiple virtual reference queues from a remote location using Virtual Reference Toolkit software. She also served as a Mentor Librarian, providing training, continuous evaluation and support for up to six LBR employees and as a Demo Librarian, helping libraries explore Virtual Reference Toolkit software. Her training experience includes six years as a Ready to Learn Program Trainer with the Public Broadcasting System (PBS). She is the author of Going Places with Youth Outreach: Smart Marketing Strategies for Your Library, scheduled for publication in June 2005 by American Library Association Editions. Ms. Pfeil now works closely with Tutor.com’s virtual reference customers on everything from training to marketing support to help make their programs a success.
