Step 1

  • Open the Start menu, open Control Panel and choose Sound, or
  • Right-click the Start menu, choose Control Panel and choose Sound

Step 2

  • Go to the Recording tab. Ensure that your microphone has the green check mark.
  • If it does not, right-click the device and select Set as Default Device
  • Speak into the microphone. If there's activity on the audio meter, you're good to go!
No activity on the audio meter?
  • Check that your microphone is plugged in and try again.
  • Right-click the device and chose Properties. Go to the Levels tab. Increas the levels and try again.



Mac OS X

Step 1

From the Apple icon, open System Preferences and choose Sound.

Step 2

Go to the Input tab. Ensure that your microphone is the selected device for sound input.

  • If it isn't, click the device in the Select a device for sound input section
  • Speak into the microphone. If there's activity on the audio meter, you're good to go!
No activity on the audio meter?
  • Check that your microphone is plugged in and try again.
  • Increase the Input volume until you are able to see activity on the audio meter.
