Michelle (Customer)
[00:00:00] simplify quadratic formula

Holly H (Tutor)
[00:00:12] Hello Michelle and Welcome!

Michelle (Customer)
[00:00:22] hi

Holly H (Tutor)
[00:00:35] If you just want to put on the whiteboard what you have so far, we will go from there!
[00:01:54] Check your 18 again...
[00:02:03] if taking everything to the left...
[00:02:05] good!
[00:02:53] Do you know what to do from here?
[00:04:31] Okay...I like everything up until your last step
[00:04:37] so I am going to erase that
[00:05:38] Before reducing, you have to simplify what is under the square root

Michelle (Customer)
[00:05:51] its not a perfect square

Holly H (Tutor)
[00:06:09] correct...so you have to break it down.

Michelle (Customer)
[00:06:14] ugh

Holly H (Tutor)
[00:06:24] is there a special way your teacher taught you to break down square roots?

Michelle (Customer)
[00:06:30] no

Holly H (Tutor)
[00:06:32] sorry...this one isn't too bad though
[00:06:38] do you know how?

Michelle (Customer)
[00:06:39] ok
[00:06:45] 20 and 8

Holly H (Tutor)
[00:07:03] keep going
[00:07:23] Good so far
[00:07:44] so what will you be left with? Can you rewrite it?
[00:07:59] close
[00:08:53] the 10 should stay...since it doesn't break down
[00:08:58] does that make sense?
[00:09:32] okay...lets try this again... lets go back to your tree

Michelle (Customer)
[00:09:57] square root of 16

Holly H (Tutor)
[00:10:04] so the circled parts can come out since there are two of them...
[00:10:10] correct.... 4
[00:10:22] but the ten is still inside the square root
[00:10:24] Good!
[00:10:28] Got that part now?
[00:10:58] So this is where we are at now.
[00:11:36] now that there is a number in front of the square root, now you can reduce it (you couldn't do that before because at the time there wasn't a number in front of the sq rt sign)
[00:11:55] careful on your reducing
[00:12:04] perfect!!!
[00:12:07] you got it!
[00:12:16] You got it!

Michelle (Customer)
[00:12:29] thanks can we do my last one

Holly H (Tutor)
[00:12:35] sure
[00:12:52] just write it out and I will stop you if I see that I need to
[00:13:43] wait a sec
[00:14:03] is that 2k?
[00:14:51] so instead of 7k it should be?

Michelle (Customer)
[00:15:30] 1k

Holly H (Tutor)
[00:15:44] 5k-2k =?
[00:15:58] OH...is that 3k?

Michelle (Customer)
[00:16:13] wht

Holly H (Tutor)
[00:17:18] was the original problems was -5k^2 +5k - 1 = 2k ?

Michelle (Customer)
[00:17:31] ya

Holly H (Tutor)
[00:19:53] You got it!
[00:20:04] Perfecto!
[00:20:10] Good work Michelle!
[00:20:34] Can I show you something on the first problem?

Michelle (Customer)
[00:20:46] thanks

Holly H (Tutor)
[00:21:32] To make this easier, you could have factored out a two first...then it would have made the numbers smaller
[00:22:08] you would have ended up with the same answer, it would have just made it a little easier numbers
[00:23:46] Are you good to go now?
[00:24:43] Are you there?
[00:25:17] Well thanks for visiting Tutor.com ! Please fill out the survey at the end! Have a great night!
