District
of Columbia Public Library Selects Tutor.com for NEW YORK–
October 4, 2005 –Tutor.com, the leading provider of one-to-one learning
and information services, announced today that the District of Columbia
Public Library (DCPL) has selected the company's software and staffing
services to provide convenient, expert reference help when and where people
of all ages need it. DCPL will offer Internet-based reference services
to the citizens of the District using Ask A Librarian™ and Live Homework
Help™, Tutor.com's flagship service with over 800 library programs across
the country connecting thousands of children each week to a tutor who
can help them. "These online services allow the DC Public Library to expand and enhance its current reference services to meet the needs of the citizens of the District of Columbia,” said Francis J. Buckley, Jr., DCPL director. “We want to establish links to students who may need the individual attention of tutors for homework assistance." DCPL serves a community of more than 572,000 people with 26 branches and a central facility. According to the director, the Library serves a very diverse, urban community with a large Spanish-speaking population. Many families do not have the resources to spend on services like tutoring. The Library was attracted to Live Homework Help because of its ability to provide individual attention to kids who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access this kind of service, Buckley said. DCPL sees the addition of Live Homework Help to their services as an extension of their partnership with local schools. Young Adult librarians from DCPL plan an active program of school visits to promote the service to students. About Tutor.com
