Mentor Manager - Science Education
The Mentor Manager works as part of the Mentor Management team coordinating the work of mentors, quality control reviewers, and provider support systems to reinforce Tutor.com's commitment to high quality in every session and to provide leadership on issues related to science education. The Mentor Manager for Science Education is responsible for managing mentoring activities related to higher education and secondary school science-related projects as well as managing tutor mentoring teams. This individual will serve as the science content and science pedagogy expert for the Mentor Management team. This is a full–time,exempt, remote position.
Responsibilities:
Working in a team setting to:
- Provide direction and develop implementation strategies for changing trends in science education.
- Work with other team members to launch new science subjects.
- Direct and support Senior Mentoring teams consisting of mentors and tutors through review of reports, review of tutor status recommendations, guidance through difficult situations, follow-through of administrative actions required to properly maintain a mentoring team, and general oversight of the team quality.
- Ensure that all team members are aware of policies, procedures, techniques and approaches for high quality science tutoring sessions.
- Identify, develop, organize, and coordinate science resources for tutors, mentors, and senior mentors.
- Coordinate with the tutor recruitment team to evaluate the quality of applicants through effective applicant testing, mock session evaluation, and complete reviews of applicant skills.
- Analyze quality control, senior mentor, mentor and tutor performance issues and propose new procedures, resources, and best practices.
- Special projects as they arise.
Qualifications:
- Must have at least 5 years classroom experience teaching science at the K-12 or college level.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail while managing several projects at the same time.
- Strong communication skills – both written and oral – with regards to content and style and proficiency with MS Word.
- Must be proficient using Microsoft Office Suite of Products especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience using GoToMeeting software or similar technology a plus
- Able to work well in a team environment and to motivate team members
- Highly motivated and shows initiative to solve problems, learn new skills, recommend changes, and take on additional projects
- Solid understanding of and agrees with Tutor.com’s educational approach
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Exceptional skills in teaching science
- Preference given to applicants who have experience with online tutoring or teaching on the college or high school level.
- All candidates must be US residents and legally eligible to work in the US.Preference given to current Tutor.com mentors and tutors
