Math Class is Boring and Makes Me Fall Asleep!
Tips for staying awake during math class
You know why you need to learn math, but that doesn’t always keep you awake during lessons. Here are some ideas on how to keep the snoozing at bay.
Bring the Class Back to Life
If you’re teacher talks in a monotonous, boring manner, it makes for a really dull time. But, don’t judge their approach too quickly. If you had to teach a bunch of easily distracted kids about the value of the Pythagorean Theorem, you might have a hard time getting excited, too.
Here are a few things you can do help get the math juices flowing in class:
- Do the assignments before class
- Jot down problems you encounter with homework and bring your questions to class
- Open your textbook in class and follow along with what the teacher is saying
- Take good notes—the act of writing alone will keep you awake
Then watch for the look of surprise, delight, and sudden animation that will cross your teacher’s face. You’ve heard the saying “It takes two to tango.” The same is true in math class. Your teacher might feel like he’s been dancing up there all by himself. Show some interest—even if you’re faking it at first—and you might be surprised by the results.
This sounds basic, but being fully engaged in class helps the time go faster. If you show the teacher you care (even a little), they’ll be more likely to teach in a way that is beneficial to everyone.
If you already have a teacher who makes math fun, show them their due appreciation and dive into learning the concepts they are teaching.
What have you done to keep up your interest in math class?
